How to communicate effectively with other people? We often ask ourselves this question at home, at work, and in everyday situations. Effective communication requires not only commitment, but also knowledge of when and how to build it. That is why in October, a month of many beginnings at the university, we focused on learning how to build relationships in multicultural teams.
As part of the regular “Erasmus educates” workshops, we created a space for integration between students of the Lublin University of Technology - mentors in the Buddy Program - and foreign students who are staying at LUT within Erasmus+ academic exchange program.
Three groups of students, under the professional guidance of Anna Kaszuba, MA, trainer and psychologist, first explored the theory of, among other things, intercultural richness, types of cultures and the resulting behavior patterns, as well as stereotypes and their impact on the quality of communication. In the practical part of the meeting, participants learned about and immediately tried out practical tools for acquiring intercultural competences, learned how to build attitudes of openness and curiosity towards people of different origins, and how to overcome prejudices. The students were also eager to share their experiences of culture shock, talking about the difficulties they faced in their first encounters with a different culture.
