  • LUT’s engineering programmes have gained international recognition: in the latest ShanghaiRanking Consultancy Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, LUT’s Mechanical Engineering field placed in the top 301–400 worldwide, and among the top 3 in Poland.

  • The university ranks very highly in national innovation rankings: it has repeatedly been named a “Leader of Innovation” in the Perspektywy Education Foundation University Ranking thanks to a strong record of patent filings, utility models and technology transfer. 

  • The university has a vibrant student achievements culture: for example, LUT students became Polish Champions in logic-controller (PLC) programming among over 50 teams. 

  • LUT is active in major international research and development projects: e.g., it leads a project on “Green and sustainable public spaces in historic cities” together with universities in Milan and Granada.

Faculties

LUT is organised into 6 main faculties that cover the broad fields of engineering, technology, management and basics of science.
These are:

  • Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – the oldest faculty, covering areas such as materials engineering, machine design, transport, mechatronics.

  • Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science – focusing on electrical engineering, computer science, electronics, ICT.

  • Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture – previously known under other names, dealing with civil engineering, architecture, building technology. 

  • Faculty of Environmental Engineering – covering topics like environmental protection, renewable energy, power engineering.

  • Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technology – focuses on foundational science/engineering education (physics, technical basics) and also prepares for advanced studies.

  • Faculty of Management – covers management sciences, logistics, business aspects of engineering. 

Supporting / Inter‑Faculty Units

In addition to the faculties, LUT has several university‑wide units that support teaching, research, student services and internationalization. 

Some of these include:

  • LUT Library – central resource for students and staff. 

  • Information Technology Centre – managing IT infrastructure, digital learning. 

  • Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer – links research with industry and innovation. 

  • Student‐services units such as Foreign Languages Department, Sports & Physical Education, Office of International Education

Governance

The governance structure features:

  • A Rector at the top, who leads the university. 

  • A Senate (university‑wide governing body) that establishes rules, and research directions.

  • Faculties each have a Dean and are responsible for their respective teaching and research programmes.
