Residence registration

If you are staying in Poland for more than 30 days, you should register your place of residence shortly after arriving in Lublin. This applies whether you are living in a university dormitory or renting a private apartment.

Once your residence is registered, you will automatically receive a PESEL number.

What is PESEL number?
PESEL (Universal Electronic System for Registration of the Population) is an 11-digit personal identification number assigned in Poland. It contains your date of birth and is commonly required for various administrative and everyday services, such as:

• opening a bank account,
• purchasing health insurance,
• accessing medical services,
• completing other official procedures.

Required Documents
To register your residence, prepare the following documents:

• A completed Residence Registration Form, signed by you and the dormitory manager. If you are renting a private apartment, bring your rental agreement instead
• A valid passport or national ID card
• A document confirming your legal stay in Poland, such as:
  • a valid visa
  • a residence permit card
  • a decision granting a temporary residence permit

In some cases, you may also be asked to provide additional documents, such as a university student certificate or a birth certificate.
