What brings people together and helps build relationships? Sharing a meal at the same table, of course! Especially if the food has been prepared together beforehand. And that’s exactly what we experienced on 16 April at the Lublin University of Technology during this year’s Erasmus Day. Nearly 30 international students from Tunisia, Spain, Mexico, Turkey, Ukraine, France, Belarus and Honduras, studying at the LUT under the Erasmus+ programme as well as full-time degree courses, got involved in organising a world cuisine fair, offering a glimpse into their cultures.
Erasmus Day is an annual event organised by Office of International Education, aimed at showcasing the richness of cultural diversity that we can draw upon every day at our university, as well as fostering integration within the LUT community.
In this edition, the international exchange of experiences was spiced up by a Trivia session prepared and led by Buddy mentors: Which film saga was filmed in the Tunisian desert? What does the Spanish word ‘tapas’ actually mean? What are Draniki made of? Why shouldn’t sparkling wines from countries other than France be called champagne? What is the famous Turkish “Hammam”? -These are just some of the questions from the quiz, which encouraged students to engage in conversation and foster mutual curiosity. Small prizes also awaited the participants.
An additional highlight of the event was an exhibition of competition photos taken by international students. The “Postcard from LUT” competition provided an opportunity to capture the special moments experienced during a student exchange in Poland. Among the submitted photos, the entry by Irene Seoane Iglesias from Spain, entitled “Winter sunset at Zalew Zemborzycki”, received the most votes. All the photographs are featured in the gallery below this article, and we would like to congratulate the winner once again!
At the same time, a meeting was held with students who regularly take part in the Erasmus+ programme. Sofiia shared her experiences of going abroad for both internships and studies, Bartek offered tips on how to find interesting BIPs (short-term Blended Intensive Programmes – ed.), and Kacper presented the opportunities available through the Buddy Programme. There was also a presentation from OIE and, most importantly, informal chats and networking.
Thank you for joining us, and we look forward to seeing you next year!
